Moving to the Internet
With eUmzugCH, administrative removals in most Swiss cantons are handled completely online.
Citizens of most Swiss cantons can register their move online with just a few clicks. This massively reduces the administrative workload for the municipalities. This is made possible by the electronic relocation notification “eUmzugCH” from emineo.
700,000 removals per year
The Swiss are a nation of renters. Accordingly, they move house frequently: Every year, around 700,000 moves are reported to the municipalities nationwide. Until now, anyone who moves has had to deregister with the municipality of residence and re-register at the new place of residence. For working people in particular, going to the counter is often inconvenient. In addition, every move also entails numerous change notifications – for example to the tax authorities or the army. However, recording all these relocation notifications also means a lot of administrative work for the residents’ registration offices. The manual processing of the data also often leads to errors in the system that have to be corrected retrospectively.
Moving easily online via the Internet
The processing of relocation notifications via the Internet was therefore not only frequently requested by the population. It was also at the top of the list of priorities for the Swiss eGovernment organization. The difficulty lies in the fact that many other players are involved in electronic relocation in addition to the municipalities. In Switzerland alone, for example, there are around 40 providers of software solutions for residents’ registration. In order to enable truly seamless processing of relocation data, they must all be able to send, receive and process electronic relocation notifications.
Online move
As an implementation partner of the eGovernment staff unit of the Canton of Zurich, emineo began designing and developing the online relocation notification in early 2015 and successfully launched the application in April 2016. Since then, eUmzugCH has developed from a cantonal pilot project into the de facto Swiss standard for electronic relocation notifications. The user-friendly online switch is now successfully used in 24 Swiss cantons. (Status: January 2025)
The online relocation is seamlessly integrated into all existing software solutions of the residents’ registration office and has interfaces to the basic insurance register of Santé Suisse as well as to the building and housing register. Data is exchanged via the federal Sedex platform in compliance with the Swiss Data Protection Act. The eCH-0194 standard defined by the eCH association is used.
The advantages of online relocation registration are obvious. Citizens are spared the time-consuming trip to the counter and the municipalities save thousands of working hours. The staff at the counters can concentrate fully on those special cases that require their extensive specialist knowledge and many years of experience.
